Polyanionic Cellulose, called PAC for short, is water-solubility cellulose ether derivatives under chemically modifying from natural cellulose. It has two types of PAC products: Polyanionic Cellulose Low Viscosity, PAC-LV for short and Polyanionic Cellulose High Viscosity, PAC-HV for short. PAC is a kind of important water-solubility cellulose ether and usually applied as its sodium salt. It is white or slightly yellow powder, non-toxic and tasteless. It can be dissolved in water, owns good heat resistance and salt tolerance, as well as strong antibacterial property. The mud fluid compounded by Polyanionic Cellulose owns good water loss control, ejection capability and high temperature tolerance. PAC is widely used in salt water based drilling fluids, seawater based drilling fluids and saturated-brine drilling fluids in petroleum drilling industry. Polyanionic Cellulose has the functions of thickener, rheology control agent, adhesive, stabilizer, protective colloid, suspending agent and water retention agent.
